Friday (January 14)

Morning

Thank the Lord for the older students who serve as classroom assistants. Pray that they will provide real help to the teachers, and build rapport with the younger students whom they serve. May it prove to be real-life training in servant leadership for each classroom assistant.

Thank the Lord for the relationships which develop through the buddy system. Pray that the mega buddies (rhetoric) and big buddies (logic) will grow as servant leaders, and in their words and actions be godly examples to the younger students.

Noontime

Thank God for the good of the performing arts. Pray that students will learn how to work in ensemble, encouraging one another actively. Pray that the “cult of celebrity” will be disarmed, and that, instead, our teachers will nurture in our students a desire to bless their audiences.

Pray for the Lord’s protection during the pandemic. Ask Him to protect not only our physical and mental well-being, but also our relationships amidst the stress. Pray that His perfect love will cast out fear wherever it may be found.

Evening

Give thanks, and pray for several of our teachers: Becky Michel (Writers Workshop & Lit Circles), Joy O’Reagan (Freshman & Junior Lit), Mary Cipriano (Grammar Science), Emma Lee (Grammar Performing Arts), and Robin Wiper (Logic Performing Arts).

Lift up several staff members: Carole O’Hare (front desk), and Lanie vanWijk (Help & Hope practitioner).

Nighttime

Thank the Lord for the ministry of Help & Hope for struggling learners. Pray that each participant will make bona fide progress over time and that the practitioners will be skillful, encouraging and loving.

Bless the Lord for guiding Greenhouse for over 20 years. Pray that the planning and preparation for the 20th Anniversary celebration in May will be fruitful. Pray that we will find the help needed for each event. Pray that every guest and participant will be encouraged in the Lord.

Thursday (January 13)

Morning

Thank the Lord for the Community Care Coordinators who help build community within the different core days. Pray that each Greenhouse family will feel welcomed, known and loved. (Current CCCs: Katie Blaser, Stacy Condrell, Jenn Hankes, Hannah Muzzy, Gabi Reczek, Courtney VanderVeen, Suzy Yoder)

Pray that the Lord will bless each home school connected with Greenhouse. Pray that each household will find and maintain the appropriate balance of academic and other activities for the total well-being of the family.

Noontime

Praise God for working in and through human history, and thank Him for the gift of story. Thank the Lord for history and lit teachers who help students see the human experience from a godly worldview. Pray that they will foster meaningful discussions, skillful presentations, and personal reflections among the students.

Ask God to help students to recognize that God uses men and women of “every nation, tribe, people and language” (Rev 7:9) to accomplish His purposes, and has done so throughout history. May they recognize and use the gifts and experiences God has given them, and respect and encourage those God has given to others as they function together in a learning community.

Evening

Give thanks, and pray for several of our teachers: Lynnette Walko (Logic Science and Writing elective), Susan Fischer (Spanish), Mary Kiel (Logic History/Lit), Melissa Milford (Grammar Performing Arts), and Trish Megchelsen (Chemistry).

Lift up several staff members: Amy Bunn (Help & Hope administrator), and Barb Kiehn (business office executive assistant).

Nighttime

Pray for new families who are considering Greenhouse for next school year. Pray that the open houses and campus visits will help families assess whether Greenhouse would be a good fit. Ask the Lord to bring the right combination of students to fill our classes and accomplish His purposes. Pray for our registrar Lour as she oversees the admissions process.

Wednesday (January 12)

Morning

Thank the Lord for the Leadership Team, comprised of the deans, headmaster and operations manager. Pray that they lead with wisdom and joy, and that their decisions will build us up as a Christian community of learners. In these troublesome times, pray that we will all nurture authentic relationships in a community marked by integrity, humility and love.

Noontime

Praise God for the wonder of creation, and pray that that sense of wonder will pervade every science class at Greenhouse. Thank the Lord for science teachers who love the Lord, and the world which He has made. Pray that they will foster a spirit of inquiry in their students. Pray that we will approach science with humility of heart and mind.

Evening

Give thanks, and pray for several of our teachers: Clarinda James (Grammar History/Lit), Grady Parker (Rhetoric History), Jan Geiger (Logic Science), and Kari Ziman (Biology, Physics and subbing for Senior Lit).

Lift up several staff members: Carolyn Palmer (rhetoric dean), Yvonne Bartlebaugh (accounting & HR), and David Bendele (facilities manager and recess coordinator).

Pray for those students on the custodial crews, that they will serve with diligence and joy.

Nighttime

Pray that God will grant us grace to learn from one another, honoring the differing gifts, perspectives and priorities each person brings.

Pray that each teacher will skillfully bring the best of the Christian liberal arts tradition to their students. Pray that each student will become an active learner, growing in wisdom and virtue.

Tuesday (January 11)

Morning

Thank the Lord for those who faithfully serve on the Board. Pray that they will consistently discern God's vision for Greenhouse in strategic planning and the advancement of our mission. Current board: Cindy Nickell (Pres), Roger Sandberg (VP), Laura Jones (Treas), Elissa Onufrock (Sec), Matthew Dominguez, Michael Johnson, Tanja Snodgrass, Michael Van Cleave, Angela Wisdom.

Pray that the budgeting process this winter will be marked by faith and prudence, and that the budget will reflect God's priorities for Greenhouse.

Noontime

Thank God for the beauty of His creation. Pray that students will grasp some of the beauty and creativity of the Lord through their art classes and projects. May they grow in their ability to see, and their artistic skillfulness.

Ask God to raise up Greenhouse Builders, who pray, provide and promote on our behalf. Praise the Lord for the remarkable response to the year-end matching campaign.

Evening

Give thanks, and pray for several of our teachers: Lynne Cowell (Grammar History/Lit), Makenna Karnosh (Soph Lit), David LaPlaca (Art), and Debbie Gottlieb (on medical leave, Senior Lit).

Lift up several staff members: Phyllis Erickson (Help & Hope founder), Michelle Keil (volunteer & event coordinator), and Tom Spacek (headmaster and electives dean).

Nighttime

Pray that collaboration on the play will draw the entire Greenhouse community together in ways that sharpen relationships and cultivate love. Pray that the students will be prepared to offer The Long, Long Journey of Odysseus as a gift to bless their audiences.

Pray that our teachers will co-school effectively both with their colleagues and with parents in shepherding the hearts and sharpening the minds of our students. Pray that communications with students and parents will remain open and marked by God’s grace and hope.

Monday (January 10)

Morning

Pray that our students will take to heart God’s call to servant leadership ... even as children. Thank the Lord for the ways that community is being built despite the pandemic. Pray that the new students who started last week will be quickly enfolded into the community.

Pray that Greenhouse will remain true to its God-given mission. Pray this will be true of the teachers, administration, Board, and families.

Noontime

Pray that the elective courses will not only be effective academically, but will also effectively nurture godly character and community among the students.

Lift up our foreign language classes (Latin and Spanish), the language arts electives (Lost Tools of Writing, Writers Workshops, and Lit Circles), and our Technical Arts Practicum.

Evening

Give thanks, and pray for several who work directly with students: Alyssa Barringer (Latin), Christiana Ostoich (Technical Arts) and Susie Wetherington (front desk).

Lift up several staff members who work behind the scenes: Venice’ Garcia (core program exec assistant), Jerry Smith (operations manager) and Lour Volkart (registrar and electives exec assistant).

Nighttime

Pray that our alumni and former students will faithfully follow the Lord in the midst of their current circumstances. Pray that they will continue growing as servant leaders wherever God has placed them.

Pray that the Lord will direct the path of our seniors and they will trust Him as they make decisions about their futures.
